Okay, kill is a really strong word and quite honestly, I don’t think all of these things will “kill” your business, but they certainly won’t help it any.
Anyway, here is my list…short and to the point (for a change):
1. Limited Payment Processing
I am guilty of this and I am working on correcting it. If you’re only accepting payments
from Clickbank and Paypal, you’re losing money. I can’t tell you how many emails I get from people asking me if they can pay some other way.
So try to accept payments in as many ways as you reasonably can.
Some of the other payment processors I am aware of are:
2checkout
Alertpay
Moneybookers
Paystone
2. Not Building A List
Yes, I know. In some niches, this isn’t a big deal. But in many niches, not building an opt in list is just suicide. So examine your niche, determine if it’s one that could be better served by building a list and if so, build one.
Since building an opt in list the right way, my income has increased greatly. That is not theory, it is fact. Had I not done this, I wouldn’t be earning what I do.
3. Leaky Sales Pages
I’m talking about sales pages with links all over the place. You don’t want your prospect navigating away from your sales page. The only link, besides the disclaimers at the very bottom, should be your pay link…period.
4. Poor Customer Service
A customer emails you and says he has a problem with a download, or whatever and you don’t respond. I don’t think I need to elaborate on this anymore. Customer
service may be the most important thing you do. If you don’t take care of you customers, you won’t have them for long.
5. Spamming
I know there are those out there who spam and are very successful. We all know their names. But if you want to be a respected marketer, you won’t do this. End of lecture.
6. Crappy Products
You may be able to get away with creating one crappy product and selling it the first time because nobody knew you yet. But once word gets around that your first product was crap, don’t expect many sales on your second product.
7. Dishonesty
This covers a lot of areas including promising to do something for somebody and then not following through. Lying is a great way to kill your business and your reputation.
8. Cutting Corners
This covers a number of areas as well, such as being a cheap S.O.B. with your promotion, laziness with your ad writing, copywriting, article writing and so on, and just about anything you do for your business that you know you could do better but don’t because you’re either cheap or lazy. I am also guilty of this big time. It may be the hardest fault to change because it is so easy to do. I’m still working on this one.
